Porn Addiction

The Relationship support charity, Relate found that 20% of British adults worry they may have a porn addiction. Viewing and pornographic content can spiral out of control, leading to emotional and psychological problems.

It can be difficult for people to feel comfortable discussing their porn use openly. French writer and filmmaker, Virginia Despentes says that “Consuming pornography does not lead to more sex, it leads to more porn.” She likens porn to eating junk food as a convenient but un-nourishing form of sustenance.

Porn consumption is normal. Porn becomes damaging when used as a substitute for genuine intimacy. Being able to separate porn and sex is important in order to become free of its hold. Porn doesn't fullfill our emotional needs.
